The Coalition: Clegg pledges to open up politics

In his speech today launching the Coalition Government's programme Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg said "I spent my whole political life fighting to open up politics. So, I would like to make one thing very clear: this government is going to be unlike any other. This government is going to transform our politics so that the state has far less control over you, and you have far more control over the state."

The Deputy Prime Minister went on to promise three major reforms that will happen immediately. These include the repeal all of the intrusive and unnecessary laws that inhibit freedom, the reform ofpolitics so that it is open, transparent and decent and the redistribution of power away from the centre.
