Car Break in on Hythe Road
The Liberal Democrat Councillors in Eastcott have organised a Crime Forum public meeting next week in response to the recent upsurge in crime and anti-social behaviour in the Eastcott Hill area of Old Town.
Local residents have reported an increase in issues like graffiti, broken wing mirrors damage to car tyres and windows, noise nuisance, dangerous acts like pushing lit fire lighters through doors and bizarre intimidation acts like attaching mutilated snakes to residents windscreens.
Residents in the area have received a leaflet inviting them to a public meeting with their councillors, representatives of Swindon Borough Council and the Police. The meeting is at 7.30pm on Tuesday 27th February in the community, at Savernake Street Social Hall.
The public meeting is limited to the area west of Eastcott Hill so aggrieved residents have the chance to really focus on issues affecting them. More Crime Forum meetings will be organised in 2007 to deal with crime and anti-social behaviour in other areas of Old Town and Town Centre.
Cllr Dave Wood (Lib Dem, Eastcott) said:
"Our area is becoming blighted by anti-social behaviour. This sort of behaviour must stop, so the Lib Dems are taking the initiative. We are hoping to work with residents, the Police and the Council to direct activities to stamp out these problems. This approach has worked in other areas of Old Town.
"Residents will also be asked about how to stamp out graffiti in Savernake Street play park. The existing graffiti is being cleared by offenders; we hope this exercise will not only save money but also act as a deterrent.
"I urge everyone in the area to come to this meeting to work with the Council and the Police to help improve our area."
