Liberal Democrat councillors Stan Pajak & Dave Wood expressed happiness that Bath University's plan to scrap their proposed developments at Coate Water.
The University of Bath look set to axe its plans for a development at Coate in east Swindon, due to the size of the site being offered by developers and Government plans to change higher education away from awayfrom new-build projects in favour of extensions to existing University campuses
Councillor Pajak (Lib Dem: Eastcott) said, "The Liberal Democrat group have been the only party to consistently oppose the Coate Development, the development was hugely unpopular in the town. We hope Coate is now safe but don't believe the developers will go away"
Councillor Dave Wood (Lib Dem: Eastcott) added "The Lib Dems would like to see a university developed in Swindon, whether at Bath University's existing Oakfield site or as part of the redevelopment of the Town Centre"
Councillor Wood concludes," We need a person of vision like David Murray John, the town's post war clerk, to sort out the town's planning chaos rather than the present mediocre plans that dither, back track & foul up".
