Liberal Democrat councillors are seething at the planned closure of the Wroughton Park & Ride scheme and the lack of consultation with town centre residents who will bare the brunt of increased congestion and parking problems. This closure will also have a negative impact on our environmental aims.
"Closing it will add 40 000 cars to a grossly overcrowded Town Centre, where will all these extra drivers park?" said Councillor Dave Wood who represents Town Centre residents said, adding "the Council has let down Old Town & Town Centre residents yet again, with a plan that goes against Swindon Borough Council's stated transport plan. It proves the Tories do not take green issues seriously"
Tory Councillor Peter Greenhalgh stated in the Evening Advertiser "The mothballing is a temporary shut down of services on the site. My gut feeling is that it will be open again in a couple of years."
Swindon Liberal Democrats see a lack of a coherent future thinking in council transport policy especially if we are now making policy on gut reaction.
