The Lib Dems are tackling vandalism
The Liberal Democrat Councillors in Eastcott have organised a Crime Forum public meeting next week in response to the recent upsurge in crime and anti-social behaviour in the Prospect area of Old Town.
Local residents have reported an increase in issues like walls and windows being broken, graffiti, broken wing mirrors damage to car tyres and windows, noise nuisance and urination in front gardens.
Residents in the area have received a leaflet inviting them to a public meeting with their councillors, representatives of Swindon Borough Council and the Police. The meeting is at 7pm on Tuesday 19th December in the community, at Savernake Street Social Hall.
The public meeting is limited to the Prospect area between Eastcott Hill and Victoria Hill so aggrieved residents have the chance to really focus on issues affecting them. More Crime Forum meetings will be organised in 2007 to deal with crime and anti-social behaviour in other areas of Old Town and Town Centre.
Cllr Dave Wood (Lib Dem, Eastcott) said:
"Life is becoming intolerable for some residents in the area and this sort of behaviour must stop. The authorities are often too bogged down in red tape to respond to these wide-ranging problems, which is why we have set up this public meeting to really get these problems addressed.
"I urge everyone in the area to come to this meeting to work with the Council and the Police to help improve our area."
