The Green Tax switch

Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell MP has unveiled plans to protect and improve our environment with a major "green tax switch".
The party wants to cut income tax for everyone, and take millions of the least well off out of income tax altogether, whilst instead taxing pollution more heavily.
Party Leader, Sir Ming said: "We are the only major party which takes the environment seriously and that does mean that environmental taxes will rise, but we will also cut income tax by 2p in the pound and take around two million low paid workers out of income tax completely. The Liberal Democrats will lift one million pensioners our of income tax altogether. Everyone will benefit from income tax cuts.
"I want to redefine our approach to tax to reflect the growing sense in many low and middle income households that taxes are unfair, over-complicated and penalise hard work. My aim is to cut the burden of direct taxes on low-paid and Middle Britain and pay for it by raising taxes on pollution and on the very wealthy.
"Climate change is the biggest challenge facing the world. The next ten years are the point of no return - what we do now affects our children and our grand children. We all have to change our behaviour and government has to take the lead.
