illegal fly posters are a blot on Swindon
A proposal launched by Swindon Liberal Democrats to stamp out fly posting in July 2004 may at last become Council Policy, as the Conservative-run Cabinet meeting debate introducing a scheme on Wednesday 13th July.
Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Cllr Stan Pajak said:
"Fly posting is such an eyesore. It really makes our town centre look neglected. I carried out some research that other councils were introducing up and down the country. The most inspiring being my Lib Dem colleagues on a Leicestershire District Council who literally proposed cancelling the bill posters with a sign which read "This poster is cancelled".
Swindon Borough Council Officers suggested that the cancelled sign is replaced with a statement reading: 'SBC dealing with envirocrime'. Other recommendations such as taking legal action to force property owners to remove fly posters are set to be adopted.
Cllr Pajak continued:
"The idea that we are moving forward on removing bill posters is positive. Officers are keen to move forward. Councillors of all parties are keen to move forward. As long as the Conservative Cabinet gives it the financial backing, we shall see this horrible fly posting mess polluting our street corners and boarded up buildings as a thing of the past."
