Populus/The Times tracker poll published today, 4 May place the parties thus: Lab 41%(0); Con 27%(-2); Lib Dem 23%(+2)
Sue Stebbing, South Swindon, commented: "The Conservatives are lower in the polls than they have ever been before this close to a General Election. In contrast, support for the Liberal Democrats is still rising."
At the last General Election the gap between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats stood at 14%. Today the gap between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats stands at 4%. This is the closest that the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have ever been during the course of a General Election.
Mike Evemy, North Swindon, added, "In the final days of the campaign, these polls confirm that there is not the slightest prospect of a Conservative government and it is the Liberal Democrats who have become the real alternative in Swindon and nationally."
